“The four-day workweek is proving to be the gift that keeps on giving” as per NPR. Companies that have tried it are reporting happier workers, lower turnover and greater efficiency. Now, there’s evidence that those effects are long lasting.

The latest data come from a trial in the U.K. In 2022, 61 companies moved their employees to a four-day workweek with no reduction in pay. They began it as a six-month experiment. But today, 54 of the companies still have the policy.

The study, from the think tank Autonomy, shows the following benefits of a four-day week:

  • 100% of managers and CEOs who were consulted said that the four-day week had a ‘positive’ or ‘very positive’ impact on their organization.
  • Real improvements in physical and mental health, work-life balance and general life satisfaction, as well as reductions in burnout
  • Physical and mental health and work-life balance are significantly better after six months

After Seeing OpenAI’s Sora, Tyler Perry Suspends Studio Expansion and Warns Jobs Are Going to Be Lost

Tyler Perry suspended his $800M studio expansion after seeing OpenAI’s text-to-video tool, Sora.

“Being told that it can do all of these things is one thing, but actually seeing the capabilities, it was mind-blowing,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, noting that his productions might not have to travel to locations or build sets with the assistance of the technology.

Tyler also worried about potential job losses in the Hollywood industry due to the impact of Sora. He said: “It makes me worry so much about all of the people in the business. Because as I was looking at it, I immediately started thinking of everyone in the industry who would be affected by this, including actors and grip and electric and transportation and sound and editors, and looking at this, I’m thinking this will touch every corner of our industry.”

Strategies For Successful Four-Day Workweek Implementation

There are many takeaways from how different organizations in UK made the four-day workweek work for them in the above world news article. Here are some highlights that we can learn from.

The organizations that made the four-day workweek work for them put in several mechanisms to make the policy successful. Some of these mechanisms are as follows:

Instead of a weakly implemented model of four-day workweek, the companies that succeeded made it a universal policy which was protected.
The companies offered the four-day workweek as an employee benefit, or a gift to staff for staff retention and to make themselves the employer of choice.
Companies either picked Friday as a day off for all employees, or a staggered day off.
At both a managerial and individual level, these companies were very active in developing mechanisms to help adoption go smoothly, including but not limited to caps on the number and length of meetings to make meetings more efficient, action-oriented email etiquette, agenda reviews, and changes to personal planning and self-management.
Companies also invested in automation for specific productivity gains, and coaching their staff to help with prioritization.

These companies put high importance on having both staff and management on board with the change before and during the trial process. They also credit their success to their willingness to put work trying new methods of work in order to find the best way forward.

The companies report that their clients have begun to adapt to working with the four-day week. If anything, the transition has offered a reputation to boost their client relationships.

These positive stories are encouraging sign that working efficiently by adopting these strategies and four day workweek is the future of work!

Personal Finance Tips

In this issue, we’re continuing with tips from Tony Robbin’s book, Money Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom. For earlier steps, check out the earlier newsletters issues 2 and 3.

Make the Game Winnable – By Figuring Out What Your Real Numbers Are

Set some realistic financial goals which will make the game winnable for you. Cut through the fog of uncertainty and know what you really need to enjoy life. Figure out what the price of your dreams is. Few people ever sit down and really figure out what it’s going to take for them to be financially independent.

Once you have your plan, your next area of focus should logically be to figure out how to make your financial dreams come true faster than you ever thought possible. When you think about it, there are at least five ways to accelerate your progress:

  1. You can save more and invest the difference in places where compound interest will work its magic.
  1. You can figure out how to earn more and invest the difference.
  1. Get more money out of your investments by reducing your fees and taxes and then reinvesting the difference. Even a reduction of 2% in the fees you pay can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars more in the value of your investments twenty or thirty years from now.
  1. You can restructure your investments so you get better returns which speed your journey towards financial freedom.
  1. You can change your lifestyle and spend less money on your day-to-day living expenses and invest the difference. The simple fact is where you can live can increase your living expenses by 10% or more each year. Even just moving from a high-tax state to a low-state can free up significant money for investing.

Our book recommendation for this issue is Money Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom.

Tony Robbins turns to the topic that vexes us all: How to secure financial freedom for ourselves and for our families. “If there were a Pulitzer Prize for investment books, this one would win, hands down” (Forbes).
